The Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) – a voluntary South African solidarity organization held its 2nd National Conference this week-end, 16 – 18 February 2007 in the City of Tlokwe (Potchefstroom) in the North West Province.

Brief background:

FOCUS was set up as a South African-based voluntary solidarity network with the peoples of Cuba and the Cuban Revolution as far back as October 1995. A Southern Africa-Cuba Solidarity Conference was then convened by ordinary South Africans in 1995 to seek to chart a programme to express genuine solidarity with Cuba and its Revolution. This meeting which was addressed by former president, Nelson Mandela and was attended by representatives of similar initiatives in the southern African region formed the basis for the launching of FOCUS in 2002 as a national Cuba-solidarity initiative in SA..
